And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
--- Acts 2:17
Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
--- James 5:7-8
Pentecost was a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit promised by Jesus.
After Pentecost, the Apostles spread the gospel with amazing power and zeal. They preached the Gospel, healed the sick, cast out demons, and even raised the dead as multitudes came to saving faith in Jesus Christ.
In Acts 2, the Apostle Peter spoke about Pentecost, saying,
"For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself."
--- Acts 2:39
This first outpouring of the Holy Spirit called Pentecost was the early rain referred to in Joel 2:23. And according to the Prophet Joel, in the last days, we will see another outpouring of the Holy Spirit (the latter rains), and it will be more powerful than the first and will be on all people.
The early and latter rains are symbols of the spiritual refreshing God gives to His people through His Holy Spirit (Hosea 6:3).
In the natural, both the early and latter rains are needed for the harvest to be reaped. The same is true in the spiritual. According to Joel, the latter rain will fall on "all flesh," causing a multitude to receive the conviction of the Holy Spirit and be saved.
And for those in Christ, we will receive the power of the Holy Spirit to preform many miracles.
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth."
--- Acts 1:8
This Acts Bible passage will have a second fulfillment in the last days.
We will receive extraordinary Holy Spirit power for worldwide witnessing, allowing us to "have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire. (Jude 1:22-23).
The last days will be perilous times, but the second outpouring of the Holy Spirit will keep us from stumbling, enabling us to stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy.
(Jude 1:24)
God has promised that in the last days, His Holy Spirit will be poured out on all flesh and all nations will be reached.
The church will be awakened and given extraordinary power and zeal to finish the Great Commission in the last days.
In Bible times, the physical latter rain was all about a great harvest.
In the end times, the latter rain will be a great spiritual harvest.
Should we be praying for a double anointing of the Holy Spirit?
In the old testament, Israel gathered a double portion of manna on the sixth day, which was the last workday of their week (Exodus 16:5,22).
This last workday, or sixth day, was literal, but we are now living in the sixth day figuratively. We are now living during the last workday of the week, or the sixth day of creation.
The Apostle Peter said that one day is as the 1000 years (2 Peter 3:8).
When the Holy Spirit is poured out during the last days, will it be a double portion?
I think scripture is saying, yes!
The prophet Elisha asked for a double portion of the spiritual anointing that was upon his predecessor, the prophet Elijah:
"Let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me."
--- 2 Kings 2:9
Should we be praying to the Lord for a double portion of Holy Spirit anointing and power, so that you may minister effectively for the Lord in these last days?
I think, yes!
Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
--- John 14:12
